the 60’s are bullshit, the 70’s almost big big bullshit, 80’s..I don’t even need to tell you, except for The Smiths maybe. Get out of it! Just get out of it! Shit’s happening now, it’s all about now, now now now. Bigger, faster, sweatier, skinnier, whiter, blacker, Gracer. Jeff Buckley, “Live in Chicago”

Jeff Buckley’s mother, Mary Guibert.

i had a dream a few weeks ago that i saw her in a cafe somewhere and just started crying and showed her my tattoo
she was really nice + gave me something
idk

i met mary twice at jb tribute shows.  first time was embarrassing.  i introduced myself and told her what an impact her son has had on me and how i was sad that i’ve never seen him live.  then i started crying.   she hugged me and told me it was ok and that scotty (as she always calls him, middle name) was looking down on us.
it was a moment i’ll never forget.

finally went and saw pee wee tonight at club nokia.
growing up, i watched pee wee’s playhouse every saturday morning religiously.  it was fun, outrageous and just great.  imagine what a treat it was to see the show live, in all its glory, 20+ years later.
the live show was vivacious.  they pretty much nailed the set. i was kind of torn, though, at how they incorporated a lot of what was happening in the present world into the show.  i liked a lot of that but at times it felt like they were trying too hard (really shamwow)?!  they also got away with a lot of sexual innuendos.
but seeing paul reubens come to life as pee wee herman, in all his hysterical glory,  was nostalgic, fun and worth seeing.  try to catch it while you can.

Bow down to the iPad?
Right now several sites are liveblogging Steve Jobs explaining the features of the much anticipated Apple tablet, but I can’t seem to find one that actually shows Jobs talking.
Meghan Asha is livestreaming commentary with CrunchGear about what is going on at the event, but it’s still difficult to decipher.  The audio feed they have just came on with a huge applause.
Here’s what they can report thus far:

0.5 inch thin and weighs 1.5 lbs
9.7 inch screen
You can hold it two ways
10 hours of battery life
You can browse a full website
Same Apps as iPhone, you can view them full screen
No camera
There’s a chip inside
No idea how much it costs
Environmentally friendly

You can follow along with Gizmodo’s liveblog and then have Meghan’s livestream for commentary in the background.
I’m awaiting Gizmodo’s official review, but it sounds like a big iTouch….
UPDATE: Gizmodo reviews the iPad for $500.

 i despise the name.

THE APPLE TABLET IS ALMOST HERE!!!
What’s more exciting than waiting in line for an iPhone? Today’s Apple Tablet announcement! It’s like Christmas time with geeks all waiting on Santa Jobs’s big delivery. Some of my less enthusiastic friends have asked me if the tablet will simply be a bigger version of the iPod Touch. Judging from Apple’s innovation and the rumors, it seems Apple is aiming to create a product that will revitalize and redefine the publishing industry. Gizmodo’s Brian Lam is pretty on par with how Apple’s tablet could help change the industry:
“The eventual goal is to have publishers create hybridized content that draws from audio, video, interactive graphics in books, magazines and newspapers, where paper layouts would be static. And with release dates for Microsoft’s Courier set to be quite far away and Kindle stuck with relatively static e-ink, it appears that Apple is moving towards a pole position in distribution of this next-generation print content. First, it’ll get its feet wet with more basic repurposing of the stuff found on dead trees today.”
Will this new medium create a new form of expression? I really hope Apple continues to blow our minds with this new product launch.

“One of the great revelations of the age of space exploration is the image of the earth, finite and lonely, somehow vulnerable, bearing the entire human species through the oceans of space and time.”

this has always been one of my favorite quotes.  my number one (most likely unattainable) dream in life is to see this view.  not only for the sheer beauty, but i’m curious as to how it will impact me.

Stendhal syndrome, Angel says, is a medical term. It’s when a painting, or any form of art, is so beautiful it overwhelms the viewer. It’s a form of shock. When Standhal toured the Church of Santa Croce in Florence in 1817, he reported almost fainting from joy. People feel rapid heart palpitations. They get dizzy. Looking at great art makes you forget your own name, forget even where you’re at. It can bring on depression and physical exhaustion. Amnesia. Panic. Heart attack. Collapse. chuck palahniuk

it’s so hard to forget pain, but it’s even harder to remember sweetness. We have no scar to show for happiness. We learn so little from peace. chuck palahniuk
